About Odense
Odense, on the island of Funen, is the birthplace of the writer Hans Christian Andersen - a town with Lilliputian streets and a fairy-tale feel about it; indeed the whole town is under the spell of the writer and his childhood home forms the heart of H. C. Andersen's House, where you can see intriguing exhibitions on his life and work. The new cultural centre Fyrtøjet (The Tinder Box) brings the fairy tale to life for visitors of all ages.
But Odense is also a city and cultural centre with museums, theatres and a music venues as well as a thriving commercial centre. Brandts Klædefabrik is a culture centre containing art galleries, a museum of photography, cafés, cinemas and more. Near Koncerthuset is Carl Nielsen's Museum, dedicated to the composer, and the open-air museum, Den Fynske Landsby, transports us back to a bygone age.
